Sea Cucumber Collagen

What is it?

Our star ingredient and the base of every Bescher product is Sea Cucumber Collagen. Sea Cucumber's, also known as "Holothurians", are cylindrical marine invertebrates or "echinoderms." The algae they consume are the source of their collagen-containing, nutrient-rich & bio-active-abundant profiles. The structure of sea cucumbers are mostly made up of collagen, hence why they can heal quickly and survive the extremely harsh seafloor environment.

What does it do?

Sea Cucumber Collagen is a unique source of marine collagen that repairs skin collagen and elastin protein fibers. It also generates a protective layer on the outer skin surface (epidermis) and enhances the homogeneous distribution of collagen fibers in the dermis by promoting an increase in the number and activity of skin fibroblasts.

Sea Cucumber Collagen is composed of echinoderm mutable collagenous tissue (MCT), a unique extracellular matrix with high similarities to human connective tissue. This provides the optimal environment for new collagen biosynthesis, cell regrowth, and tissue repair. What's more Sea Cucumber Collagen contains essential amino acids that assist in preventing skin irritation and damage, provide optimal moisturizing properties, and create a perfect environment for eczema- or acne-prone skin to regenerate.

Ceramides

What is it?

Good news, not all fat is bad! In fact, this type of fat is the best! Ceramides are a lipid, or oil, that constitute 50% of your skin's epidermis, aka it's outermost barrier and first line of defence against weather, pollutants and dust. Ceramides attract moisture and hydration. So, when they all join up, ceramides can't help but bond with them. In doing so, your skin barrier is reinforced, renewed and rejuvenated. The more ceramides your skin has, the more plump, even-toned and "glowy" your skin looks.

What does it do?

If your skin was a paper mâché sculpture, then your skin cells would be the paper, and the ceramides the vital glue that stops everything from falling apart. Unfortunately, like collagen, our skin loses its ceramides as we age, hence why aged skin becomes drier, extremely delicate, and wrinkly. However, that's not the only way we lose ceramides. Every time we expose our skin to the sun or harsh wind without SPF or moisturiser; Every time we stress over getting to a meeting on time; Every time when we sit in air-conditioning all day; and every time we leave makeup on for too long... we lose ceramides, and that means we also lose skin hydration and nutrient's, increasing the risk of rapid aging, irritation and damage to our skin. (Hellooo eczema and acne flare up!) This is why the Bescher formula utilises natural ceramides that are identical to the ones found on our own skin, to restore your skin back to it's optimal health, texture, tone and shine.

Squalene

What is it?

Eczema and acne-prone skin rejoice, squalane is here to replace those mineral or oleic oils and nasty chemicals commonly found in typical moisturizers that claim to nourish your skin but leave it oilier than before, sensitive and irritated AND breaking out! SqualEne (with an E) is instead naturally derived from plant sources as a lipid and then stabilized through hydrogenation into squalAne (with an A) to be used in cosmetics as a non-comedogenic emollient and moisturizer.

What does it do?

As an emollient, it hydrates and as a moisturizer, it well... moisturizes! Although it is technically an oil, squalane leaves no oily film and, unlike other oils, it is free from any unpleasant odors. Squalane doesn't just stop there though; it's a free-radical fighter and detoxifier thanks to a multitude of antioxidants and, while providing your skin with a barrier from the elements, it is also a natural booster of collagen meaning sensitive or damaged skin will be glowing and healed again in no time! Squalane is also naturally anti-bacterial, so acne and eczema suffers won't need to fear clogged pores or reddened and sensitive skin that breaks out or gets irritated with every application (finally!) Our bodies produce squalEne to nourish skin cells, however it falls victim to ageing and exposure to harsh weather or allergens like dust, causing it to degrade rapidly. Hence why squalane is added to the Bescher formula, to make it the perfect nourishing and synthetically stable addition to any skincare, especially for those with excessive sebum production (acne) or eczema flare ups.

MSM

What is it?

MSM - or *long breath* Methyl Sulfonyl Methane / Dimethyl Sulfone - is a form of sulfur that naturally occurs in our skin. In fact, sulfur does more than just "occur", it's the 4th most abundant mineral in our entire bodies! This organic mineral is the purest type of sulfur, and is found in all organisms, making it the most bioavailable type too. Adding MSM into your skincare routine is vital as eczema- or acne-afflicted skin cannot heal properly without it.

What does it do?

Think of MSM as a golden gateway to your skin, it allows all the goodness in, and stops all the bad stuff in its tracks. It protects the collagen and elastin in our skin while also increasing it; creating skin that appears firm, non-irritated, bright and bouncy. It also reduces inflammation and pigmentation by boosting the absorption of protective antioxidants and reducing inflammatory cytokines. So those of us with eczema or acne truly benefit from this remarkable type of sulfur.

However, there's a catch... skin that is dry or irritated or inflamed loses its potency of MSM. Without MSM, our skin cannot produce elastin and collagen, absorb Vitamin C and antioxidants, or repair itself... AND what does that lead to? Aged, dull, inflamed and damaged skin. AND then... acne and eczema. (Ugh, it's just one big vicious cycle!) This is why the Bescher calming cream wouldn't be able to regenerate and renew damaged skin like it does without this superstar ingredient.

Antioxidants in a blend of natural oils and waxes

What is it?

Antioxidants are free-radical fighting molecules or compounds commonly found in plants, and colourful fruits or vegetables. They protect the skin from these free-radicals and oxidative stress often caused by exposure to harsh weather or sun, especially UVR and UVA rays. Free radicals, particularly the dreaded hydroxyl radicals that breakdown our skins defensive enzymatic activity and strip the skin of UV protection, cause over 80% of the accelerated extrinsic ageing, irritation and damage that occurs to our skin when it's unprotected.

What does it do?

Let’s talk avocados: when an avocado is left open and exposed to all the elements (heat, air, humidity) it turns brown, shrivels, rots and then we throw it away. (There goes that smashed avo toast we were wanting for breakfast!) The same thing happens to our skin without the help of antioxidants. As the name suggests, antioxidants anti-oxidise, delaying or completely stopping this process of oxidative stress and cell-damage that we inadvertently expose our skin to all-day-every-day if we don't protect it. Free radicals enter our exposed skin, altering its DNA; disturbing its sensitive balance of proteins, lipids and amino acids; and damaging the skin cells that maintain its health and regeneration process.

Unfortunately, when we're prone to irritation or other skin issues like eczema and acne, free radicals are attracted even more to our type of compromised skin because they can cause damage here the quickest. Therefore, by using a potent blend of antioxidants in sensitive- skin friendly natural oils and waxes, the calming cream allows our skin to quickly absorb these molecules and compounds that provide a protective barrier and free- radical scavenging army to stop further damage such as oxidation, cell damage, melanogenesis and irritation.

Niacinamide

What is it?
